Dr. Jim Shi is the Leir Chair Professor at NJIT. Previously, he held the Hurlburt Chair professorship (2019-2022). His research interests lie in Supply Chain Management (SCM), Business Data Sciences (BDS), Financial Technology (FinTech), Logistics, Disruptive Technology (e.g., Blockchain) for SCM, Crowdsourcing Economics, Supply Chain Risk, Resiliency and Sustainability, Healthcare Operations, etc. Some of his current research is on the interface between Finance, Supply Chain Management, and Marketing.
Jim Shi is a recipient of IBM Faculty Award (2019), Excellence in Teaching Award (NJIT University- and College-wide), Robert W. Van Houten Award for Teaching Excellence, Outstanding Faculty Research Award (NJIT University- and College-wide). His teaching excellence has awarded him as the Master Teacher Designation 2022 (the highest teaching recognition at NJIT). Nationally, he has been selected as one of the Poets & Quants' 50 Best Undergraduate Professors for 2021. Internationally, Dr. Shi is the receipt of 2022 INFORMS Prize for Teaching OR/MS Practice.
His research appears at numerous scholarly top-tier journals such as Operations Research (OR), Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (MSOM), Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), Decision Sciences Journal (DSJ), Naval Research Logistics (NRL), European Journal of Operations Research (EJOR), Annals of Operations Research,
Omega (the International Journal of Management Science), Operations Research Letter (ORL), etc.
His research has been funded by USDA, IBM, Leir Charitable Foundations, NYSHEX, etc.
Dr. Jim Shi has been serving for multiple editorial roles. He is currently serving as Associate Editor for Decision Sciences Journal (DSJ), Omega, and Data Science and Management (DSM). He also serves as a member of the Editorial Board for Production and Operations Management, and the International Journal of Business Analytics (IJBAN).
Dr. Shi’s teaching interests include Financial Technology (FinTech), Data Analytics, Business Analysis, Business Statistics, Management Science, Decision Science, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, etc. He has taught at several institutes including NJIT, Robinson College of Business at GSU, Rutgers Business School, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
